Kalapa harbor has been known since the 12th century and at that time was the most important port Pajajaran. Then in the advent of Islam and the European colonizers, Kalapa contested between the kingdoms of the archipelago and Europe. Dutch finally managed to master it long enough until more than 300 years. The conqueror is change the name and the port Kalapa surroundings.

But in the early 1970s, the ancient name Kalapa re-used as the official name the old port is in the form of "Sunda Kelapa".

Although now only a name Sunda Kelapa port in Jakarta one, this area very important because the villages around the port of Sunda Kelapa is the forerunner of Jakarta anniversary was set on June 22, 1527. At that Kalapa, real name, is a port empire which had its capital in Pakuan Pajajaran (now Bogor) were seized by Demak troops and Cirebon.
